The MNM Junior Team headed down to Burleigh Point on Sunday to compete in the Joe Engel Junior Cup. All surfers competed with enthusiasm and took full advantage of being able to surf good Burleigh Point with the right to drop in on the locals with some eager MNM groms even continuing to use the privilege well after they'd been eliminated from the comp ! With a Saturday afternoon training run under their belts and no great expectations, the team were frothing to take on their more fancied opponents in what has become a very high standard, Gold Coast Junior surf event. The team surfed well but by the end of the day it was e Burleigh who took out the team Trophy with North End's Luke Hynd raising the individual winners cup for the third time running.
A special mentions must go to our very own super sub Jake Satherley for his team spirit and willingness to compete, no doubt we will be hearing more about Jake in the years to come. Jack Springfield, Blake Webb and Tom Lacy were the teams best performers, all progressing through their early rounds, just missing out on semi final births.
A big thanks to Ken Hastie and Baz Chuter for their assistance and support on the day, Coach Gibbo for his pre event coaching session and team management and a very big thanks to the best judge of the event, Rod Roberts. Rod judged late morning right through to the final and definitely led the way in the fair and consistent department !
